ugh. I hate her. She's trying to deny it and now she got her future son-in-law talking to the media as a desperate attempt to make her more appealing. Barf.
Is the Palin administration shockingly amateurish? Yes, it is. Disturbingly so ... The 263 pages of the report show a coordinated application of pressure on Monegan so transparent and ham-handed that it was almost certain to end in public embarrassment for the governor ... Not only did people at almost every level of the Palin administration engage in repeated inappropriate contact with Walt Monegan and other high-ranking officials at the Department of Public Safety, but Monegan and his peers constantly warned these Palin disciples that the contact was inappropriate and probably unlawful. Still, the emails and calls continued - in at least one case on recorded state trooper phone lines ... Monegan consistently emerges as the adult in these conversations while the Palin camp displays a childish impetuousness and sense of entitlement.
I use to visit this site for your regular writing posts, but I've noticed a switch to your usual format.
I find it now steeped deeply in politics.
I didn't mind of course...even laughed at some of it(since I'm an Obama supporter), but now, I find it a bit excessive.
Really.
The hate at this point oozes off the screen...diagrams and all. And you come to only expect these kinds of posts.
Sure, this is your blog, but I wasn't sure if you noticed it yourself.
Now I see why other literary agents try to stay away from religion and politics (or at least keep it to a minimum) and stick to publishing related posts. It's usually the main reason why people visit their site in the first place.
Your in a public setting representing not just yourself but an agency.
It wouldn't hurt to consider how you come off. Just saying.
Contrary to popular belief, this has never been a blog about publishing or agenting. I've always maintained this as a personal blog reflecting elements of my whole personality. And I've never pretended it to be otherwise. The blog existed long before I was an agent, after all.
Nowhere in my posts do you find hatred unless it is in the actions of those government and/or religious officials who are trying to dictate to me how my life should be lived. Banning gay marriage? Overturning Roe v. Wade?? Forcing women to pay for their own rape kits? That's pure hate in action. All I'm doing on this blog is pointing it out for others to see so that they can take action of their own, and add their voices to the thousands of others who have decided that enough is enough.
And I have to be honest - even those who disagree with me in the comments field usually behave themselves, which is why I have never banned anyone from commenting on this blog.
Yes, lately my posts have been deeply political because I find that right now it's necessary. When a piece of legislation affects me and my family personally, threatens to take away my own personal liberties, well, yes - I get political. Extremely political.
And if you're only just noticing that now, you haven't been reading the blog long enough, that's all.
I'm quite aware how I come off: as a concerned citizen and opinionated human being. And that's certainly nothing I'm ashamed of.
If you don't like the political posts, skip over them. That's the beauty of the Internet. There's always another website to read.
I don't know that I'd call any of this hate so much as outrage. And I think CL knows she's outraged. Many people are these days. This is the most emotional political campaign season most of us have ever experienced. And not that CL needs me to defend her (we all know better than to assume that), but she did say a long, long time ago that this isn't a publishing blog. It's a personal blog that sometimes has publishing-industry information on it. Some people come here for a little bit of everything.
The Swivet is maintained by Colleen Lindsay, publishing consultant, professional nerd and a literary agent at FinePrint Literary Management. This is a personal blog; opinions expressed herein are entirely my own and not those of my employer. Although they are are sometimes the opinions of my cats, because cats have shiny, shiny weapons on their feet, weapons that can be quite persuasive at times.
NOTE: As of March 19, 2009, I am closed to new submissions.

I see a new SNL skit looming in the near future over this!

I actually prefer Time Magazine's version which says:

Quoting from Sprizouse's comment: "...the Palin camp displays a childish impetuousness and sense of entitlement."
^ Palin's been the epitome of everything in that sentence, so it's not surprising the Palin camp is like that, too. SAD, but certainly not surprising!
Anyway, I'm so glad this sort of information is finally being widely distributed. People need to know!
No, no. The McCain campaign published their own report that cleared her of any wrongdoing and why would they lie?
