From the Dept. of No Comment: Ballantine acquires Kathy Griffin memoir for $2 million.

Guess she's not D-List anymore...

ugh... why can't I get 2 mil to write a pointless memoir, too?

Granted, she's funny and her book will probably sell, but a 2Mil advance?

That could feed and take care of a bunch of authors already out there busting their but to make it happen.

Shame. In this economy they're still taking celebrity over writing talent.

It wasn't the authors I was thinking about.

Bad timing for an announcement like this.

Well, I'd work for Mariska Hargitay... any day!

Exactly, Colleen.

And there's another book I'll never read.

What I want to know is do those kinds of books actually sell enough to make up for that kind of advance? I don't know anyone who reads them.

And more editor lay-offs suck :(

I am apparently not the target market, since I had to follow the link to find out who the heck Kathy Griffin IS. I don't know whether to laugh or cry about such a staggering advance in these tumultuous times. Crazy.

Sheesh, 2 mil to Kathy Griffin when people are getting laid off left and right in the industry? That's just wrong!

I too wanted to find out who Kathy Griffin is, but the page is no longer there, so I still have no idea! lol

I guess plastic surgery + annoying personality = $2 million. Where is the justice in this?

Kathy is a comedian.

It's too bad that this money isn't used to keep editors employed, bills paid, and imprints open. I'm sure Kathy would be fine with big royalty checks if this is a surefire best seller.
