Soho Press publisher and co-founder Laura Hruska has passed away.

Yesterday brought the sad news that longtime Soho Press publisher (and beloved editor!) Laura Hruska passed away over the weekend.  Sarah Weinman talks about it here, GalleyCat has a brief write-up about it as well today and Publishers Weekly has details about the memorial service this Friday.

Some of the extraordinary authors whose writing careers Laura launched at Soho include Edwidge Danticat (with whom Hruska began a correspondence when Danticat was still a student at Barnard, before publishing Danticat's award-winning debut novel Breath, Eyes, Memory), Robert Hellenga, Garth Stein, Sophie Hannah, Jacqueline Winspear, Sue Townsend, Cara Black, Henry Chang, and Qui Xiaolong. Hruska also published critically acclaimed fiction by British actors Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie.

Our deepest condolences go out to Laura's family, her daughter Bronwen, and to our friends and colleagues at Soho Press.

I'm so sad about this. Laura bought my debut novel. I wish I could have met her. I'll always be grateful to her.
